Dream Style: Why Bother?

So, what exactly is ‘dream style’ and why do you care anyway?

Take a look at these examples:

Whatever your opinions on the above celebrities, there is absolutely no denying that they have nailed their dream styles. Squint and you still know beyond doubt who you’re looking at and what they’re about. What else do these ladies all have in common? Confidence. Again, whether you like them or not, they are truly rocking the individuality jive. Do you want a piece of it? Hell yes you do!

You might notice that the recognisable style of each of these women comes down to more than just the clothes they are wearing or a signature hair-do; it’s in their stance, it’s intrinsically tied with their careers; these women are their own personal brands. The way you look sells you to people, and that may sound a little sinister but it’s really not. Whether your attire is actively linked to your career (say, you’re a lawyer) or whether you’re just looking to make friends and be an attractive personality generally, the way you dress matters. Jeans and a white t-shirt say you’re a casual, down to earth, easy-going creature; a tailored pencil skirt with killer heels, on the other hand, say you mean business.

What are you trying to say to the world about yourself?

Ok, so there’s a big pink elephant in the room called ‘impracticality’. These stars can dress the way they do because they don’t have to catch the bus, or sit through a seminar, or traipse around the supermarket. So their style suits their lifestyle? Yours can too! But having your style suit your lifestyle should not be construed as fading into the background; your lifestyle is merely your backdrop, you are the main event.

If you strive to achieve your dream style, the positive outcomes will be boundless. Your inner and outer self will become more fundamentally linked; you will probably feel that the outer you will begin to give a much clearer picture of the inner you, the real you, and therefore you will feel far more confident. You will probably find that your relationships with others will also benefit as a result.

Getting in touch with your personal style is more than an aesthetic change, it involves reaching inward, dissolving any opposition between the person you are currently allowing yourself to be and the person you really want to be.

‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, but why bother really? It all sounds a bit too much like hard work to me. Why can’t I just make it up as I go along?’

Still not convinced? Ok, let’s look at it logically: what other elements of your life do you leave merely to chance, or ‘make up as you go along’? Your education? Hell no. Your career? Uh-uh. Your relationships? They take work. Well, isn’t your appearance, in many ways, central to all of these? Doesn’t your style deserve a bit of special attention all of its own, especially if you want it to work in your favour? Don’t simply shrug it off as vanity as, although it can lean that way, I’m not advocating excess, I just think your personality deserves a little artistic representation.

Hard work it may well be (at first) but think of the outcome, of achieving a look that is truly you, the cherry on the cake of a perfectly well-rounded existence, and most of all a fun way to focus all your passions, desires, aspirations and achievements into a single shining beacon of yourself. That’s dream style.

In the next part of the series we will discuss laying the foundations for dream style to get you off to a flying start.

And yes, that was a lot of fun, but I have some troubles, because my style was diferent and people make fun of me. But then they open there eyes an stop, and all the search and troubles worth it! So.. please! I want to read the rest :) I think that is very nice of you tell all of this!
